History made as RunningCoupleZA successfully runs the length of KwaZulu-Natal

900km Mozambique to Port Edward

Phindi Gule-Burley and her Business Partner & Husband Kevin Burley made history while touching lives. On Saturday 30th April 2016 the couple became the first people to have successfully ran the length of KwaZulu- Natal, a total of 900km (Mozambique border to Port Edward); 30km everyday for 30 consecutive days.

The Burleys decided to take on a challenge that no man has ever embarked on - run the length of KwaZulu-Natal from the Mozambique border (Kosi Bay) to Port Edward (South Coast), a total of 900km. They committed their time & resources to executing this daunting challenge during the month of April 2016 and they succeeded. They are now pushing themselves further and determined to run throughout South Africa, a project they call #RunSAwithUs. The Burleyʼs otherwise known as the #RunningCoupleZA are no strangers to the running & the running community as they have both completed a few Comrades Marathons.

While running throughout KZN, the couple filmed every step of their run as they plan to share their expedition with the world through documentaries/ TV part series. The documentary is not only about the couple running, it will also show the world what a beautiful country South Africa is as well as the incredible people who call the country their home. On Saturday 30th April 2016 the Burley's finished the first part of their incredible journey (RunSAwithUs) at Carribean Estate (Port Edward).

The couple is currently in training preparing to continue their journey (RunSAwithUs), this time around running from Johannesburg to Cape Town; a total of 1400km.

The challenge is set against three key objectives that resonate with the couple, their lifestyle & their values:

  • HEALTHY LIVING: inspire others (families) to live a healthy lifestyle by exercising, maintaining a healthy diet & being pro active about their health status
  • SHOWCASE South Africa: show the world the beautiful of South Africa, highlighting some of the lesser known destinations/ hidden treasures, uncover the unsung heroes and touch on some of the socio-economic challenges the country faces
  • MENTAL & PHYSICAL STRENGTH: inspire others to always push themselves (DIG DEEP) both mentally & physically

It was key for the couple to also find a PURPOSE before undertaking this challenge. As children are close to the couple's heart, it's no surprise that they chose to raise funds for various charities that are focusing on children.
